JC | Rice Noodle Shop & Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into JC | Rice Noodle Shop & Restaurant feels a bit like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away on a quiet stretch of SE Foster Road. The space itself is unadorned and practical, reminiscent of a storeroom where every corner hums quietly with the promise of something homemade and deeply satisfying. The pace is unhurried, inviting you to slow down as you await a meal crafted with care rather than speed.
At JC, the real draw is the devotion to fresh, handmade rice noodles that anchor the entire experience. There’s a tactile pleasure in knowing the noodles arrive daily, molded by hand into dishes that carry a weight and texture you won’t find in typical takeout. The portions are generous, perfect for sharing with friends or family, turning an ordinary gathering into a comforting moment centered on warm, familiar flavors.
The atmosphere isn’t about fancy frills or a bustling crowd — it’s grounded in authenticity and a subtle warmth that comes from friendly service and food that speaks for itself. The owner’s kindness is often felt between bites, creating a welcoming environment that encourages return visits. Here, simplicity is the backdrop for meals that offer a thoughtful balance of tenderness, char, and richness, often highlighted by stir-fried noodles that seem to carry the very soul of the kitchen.
Whether you’re drawn by the quiet charm of a neighborhood takeout spot or the lure of hand-pulled noodles served with a surprising depth of flavor, JC offers a small menu that refuses to rush the essentials. It’s a place where food quietly shines and moments feel authentically shared, making it a quietly cherished destination in Portland’s diverse food landscape.

BEST TAKE OUT IN PORTLAND Take out rice noodles, which they make from scratch. So tasty! (It's not really set up to eat there, just take out). And the owner is super nice. The portions are large; getting a few take out containers from JC is a great way to feed a group. Their fried tofu is also great. Not super fast, though, so it's best to call ahead if you hate waiting. The menu is small but excellent. Honestly my favorite take out food in Portland.

Wow! The food is in direct contrast with the atmosphere. It feels like walking into a storeroom with bags of rice stacked halfway to the ceiling and boxes of today's noodles. The service was fast and the lady was very sweet. The food, though, is the star. HUGE portions and soooo good. The char was on point, the meats were so tender and cooked perfectly. The noodz were killer. I got the house special chow fun so I got to try the chicken, pork, and shrimp. Can't recommended this place enough for take-out.

The best Chow Fun we’ve ever had. A straightforward and delicious menu. Great portion size. The noodles were obviously super fresh given that they make that here. Truly a standout spot for the freshest noodles. The fresh soy milk was also incredible.

I had the house special chow fun for breakfast, and it was so good. The noodles are fresh and the portions huge. I'll definitely eat here again. Highly recommended, and I like that they are open so early.

This place is a hidden gem. I've been going here for at least 10+years with my family. They are primarily a noodle and tofu shop making hand made noodles like chow fun and fresh or fried tofu. But also serve up huge portions of stir fry noodle dishes (2-3 meals easy). Pickup only, but worth checking out for the delicious food.

Very delicious and large portion. The prices seem to have gone up by $2 since some of the photos here but how can you blame them for inflation? I got beef Chow Fun. It is $18 + $0.50 to use credit card. They gave me chop sticks to eat in the car. I asked for soy sauce they said all the flavor is in the noodle they were right it is very delicious! Very small shop, not really a restaurant but they have delicious take out dishes. Next time I will try the rice noodle roll! Very nice people run this shop. I will definitely come back.

The beef and house special rice noodles are the go to deals for a great family meal. Call ahead and order for take out. There is no dine in option here but you could always chow down in the car. You can buy fresh rice noodles by the pound in flat sheet or cut too.
